ICP-TEAMS Shines at Kids Next Door Summer Camp Career Day

Last week, the ICP-TEAMS team had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at the Kids Next Door facility for their summer camp program. With around 25 school-aged children ranging from kindergarten to high school, the atmosphere was filled with curiosity and excitement.

Demonstrating the Power of Education and Technology

We kicked off our demo with a PowerPoint presentation projected on a big screen, explaining our job roles, daily duties, educational backgrounds, and work experiences. The kids were captivated by the content, eagerly learning about the various paths and opportunities ahead of them.

To give them a real taste of what we do, we also showcased a tutoring session via YouTube and navigated through our ICP website and app. It was incredible to see the children’s eyes light up with interest and questions.

Engaged and Enthusiastic Audience

The students were not only attentive but actively engaged, asking questions like “Was college fun?” and “Can you provide services to our schools during the school year?” One standout moment was when a student thanked us for coming and several others came up to give us hugs as we were leaving – a truly heartwarming experience.

Inspiring Future Dreams

One of the most memorable parts of the day was discussing the children’s dreams for the future. We encouraged them to think about their aspirations and the education required to achieve them, whether it will be through the military, a career or trade, or higher education. The kids were inspired and excited about the endless possibilities.

Curiosity and Connection

The questions didn’t stop there. The children were curious about our salaries, where we lived, and the duration of our schooling. The genuine interest and eagerness to learn were palpable.

Appreciation and Positive Feedback

Both the students and staff expressed their gratitude for our presence and dedication, especially given the short notice. Their appreciation reinforced our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Building Interest and Future Connections

We hope that the students will go home and share their experience with their parents and guardians, and that they will remember us when school starts back up, mentioning us to their educators.

Interesting Interactions and Future Plans

We had some great interactions, including with the camp’s Director, who wanted to stay in touch and requested our business cards. Our next steps include reaching out to the Director for photos (we’ll update this post) and contacting the schools within the camp’s transportation zone.

Overall, the Kids Next Door Career Day was a fantastic experience, and we are excited about the potential new connections and opportunities it has opened up for ICP-TEAMS.  We are so excited for this school year and doing the work to help our students!
